Forged in the filthy depths of Hochelaga, Dopethrone is a sonic gut-punch of sludge metal nihilism, so vile it's a controlled substance. The Montréal trio conjures a tar-thick atmosphere of addiction, misanthropy, and bottom-feeder blues called "Slutch" — a vicious hybrid of black metal bleakness and NOLA-style sludge with a heavier-than-thou DIY mentality. Since 2008, they've churned out essential slabs of audio filth. After their breakthrough album "Dark Foil" (2011) caught the ear of legends Voivod, they were summoned to spread their contagion at Roadburn Festival in 2012, making Europe their adoptive land. Since then, they have kept spreading the madness on stages across the globe, from the hallowed pits of Maryland Doom Fest to Hellfest, leaving audiences crusted in a grime that never washes off.
